Caserta

The history of the Reggia started on the 28 August of the 1750, when Charles of Borbone , king of the Two Sicilies from 16 years, purchased from the heirs of the family Caetani Acquaviva the level territory, to the feet of the Tifatini Mountains, where a small they were found village and a tower pyramidal,a precise "torrazzo",. The cost o fthat transaction removed from the regal boxes good 489.343 dukedoms (as noticed from the documents of the epoch), but the expense was held necessary for the realization of the project that the sovereign caressed for a long time: : her & military quot;reorganisation and administrative of the kingdom" (as writes the architect Gian Marco Jacobitti , Superintendent to the Good Environmental and Architectural di  Caserta in oneof his work). An initiative that didn't want to confine itself to build a palace that it competed with splendidnes of Versailles , but that it aimed to give to the kingdom one new capital, distant from the sea and from the offenses that could come, as it had been shown by the English in the 1742 , when this had threatened with bombing Naples (and as it had happened over half century later, when to moor in the waters introduced himself Nelson with his canon to force a surrender of the heads of the Republic ofPartenopea in the 1799 and to hang to the more tall yard of his flagship Francesco Caracciolo.
